May 26th, 2011 Google hates Facebook I want to insert a like button on my homepage. Facebook provides a cool HTML generator here. Used a cool google gadget called "addthis" instead of this code. See blog entry here. May 27th, 2011 LinkedIn social sharing
LinkedIn has a webpage for creating a share button. Tried it in code wrapper, but it doesn't seem to work:
Found a forum (lost the URL) where they referenced "addthis". Joined and found that they have 6 google gadgets. I tried all of them here:
first addthis gadget. FB doesn't work. Linkedin doesn't work. second addthis google gadget. too many options, but it works. Linkedin works!!! May have to use this as until I figure out the linkedin. Snap! There are too many social web thingys
third addthis google gadget. Has many options in the gadget plugin. need to experiment!
fourth addthis google gadget. facebook doesn't work. popup is only inframe
fifith addthis google gadget. does nothing.
sicth addthis google gadget. seems to make a random url for "optics.
A forum post said use the linkedin html generated code and the google gadget "HTML bypass". Doesn't work either
Tried the "addthis" generated code from signing into thier website and instert into my favorite code wrapper. Doesn't work:
Used the third addthis gadgets. The twitter wouldn't work. It works from the googlesites page, but not the remapped opticsrealm.com site.
Added the url to the title so it would come across twitter. This site rates the most popular social sites. Will select buttons based off their survey.
Had to fiddle with the box size. If I sized for chrome the facebook like button wouldn't come across in IE9.
3 June 2011 Like button addendum Read this article today about the reality of the like button. Scary that FB may soon control traffic on the web. I thought of removing these widgets on my pages. But alas, I'm paying homage to "the man" by keeping like buttons. You have to do, what you have to do, to get traffic. |
